North Little Rock police searching for burglary suspects


On August 25 at 3:20 a.m., a commercial burglary took place at the Double-Quick Exxon at 1504 Highway 161. All scratch-off tickets from the convenience store were taken.

Several hours later, an unknown black male cashed in some of the scratch-off lottery tickets at three locations in southwest Little Rock.

The black male is described at being approximately 40-45 years old, 5'9", weighing 225 pounds. He was wearing a black Polo ball cap and a blue football jersey with the number "54" in white on the front, back and sleeves. The word "Chicago" was also on the back of the jersey.

He was also wearing blue jeans and white sneakers. He had a short beard/goatee.

NLRPD awarded accreditation at CALEA Fall Conference

Chief Danny Bradley and other members of the North Little Rock Police Department were in attendance at the Commission for Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) Conference in Garden Grove, California.

The North Little Rock Police Department began the Accreditation process in October of 2007. During this time, the police department had to ensure our written directives complied with CALEA national standards. To gain Accreditation, The North Little Rock Police Department had to not only comply with 329 mandatory standards and 65 other than mandatory standards, but provide proofs of compliance for each standard for every year during the process.

For several days this past July, a team of CALEA assessors examined all aspects of the Department's policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services to verify the North Little Rock Police Department meet CALEA's state-of-the-art standards.

NLR going green on 'Black Friday'

The city will distribute FREE QuikSaver Energy Efficiency kits at 7 a.m. at the Home Depot in North Little Rock at 4325 E McCain Blvd. on Black Friday, November 26, 2010. These kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis to North Little Rock citizens, and the key requirements for receiving a kit are:

· kit must be installed in a North Little Rock residence

· all components of the kit must be installed

· recipient agrees to a post-installation verification.

Promoting fitness at Big Dam Bridge Full Moon Walk

They're doing it by promoting physical fitness with the the Big Dam Bridge Full Moon Walk.

Everyone is invited out this Sunday to walk across the bridge and enjoy the view of the full moon and the night sky. All ages are welcome and it's free!

Members of the UALR Dance Team will entertain, and former Razorback and professional football players Anthony Lucas and Clint Stoerner along with staff from D1 will lead the group in warm up exercises.

Start time is 6 p.m. and will begin on both sides of the bridge. There will be free shuttles from NorthShore Business Park and Cooks Landing in North Little Rock and Murray Park in Little Rock beginning at 5:15 p.m. if you do not want to walk to the Bridge. There will not be parking available at the lots at the base of the Big Dam Bridge.

Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome; pets and bikes are not allowed. Flashlights are recommended.

'Today's THV at 6:30': Tale of Two Bridges

It's a Tale of Two Bridges: The Clinton Bridge, which has just started its remodeling, and the Big Dam Bridge, which Sunday night will offer a walk by the light of the moon.

A consortium of architects, engineers, city planners and construction managers, met with the public at the Clinton Library Thursday. They unveiled an ambitious $10 million project, that has been a dream of former President Clinton's since opening his library six years ago. Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed by July of 2011. It will offer pedestrians, bikers, skateboarders, a stroll over the river, on an historic bridge built in 1899.
