THEA Creative Writing contest offers scholarship opportunities

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR – The THEA Foundation is proud to announce the new Creative Writing Scholarships for 2011. The scholarships are open to the Arkansas high school students.

Students will use Thea Leopoulos's artwork as inspiration for their own original short story.  Two scholarships will be awarded in creative writing. First place will receive $3,000 and second will receive $2,000. The awards are one-time scholarships, and are awarded to the accredited college, university or institute upon the student enrolling full-time. Matching funds are offered to THEA scholarship winners if they choose to attend our partnering institutions.

The submission deadline is February 25th, 2011 (hard copies must be postmarked by Feb, 25th).  Students MUST REGISTER at www.theafoundation.org and then submit work via email to: sarah@theafoundation.org or students may send a hard copy to: Short Story Scholarship, THEA Foundation, 401 Main Street, Ste. 100, North Little Rock, AR 72114

This years competition is based on Thea Leopoulos’s colored pencil art piece “Whitby’s.”  Students should use the artwork as inspiration for his or her story. Writers should soak up the colors and forms and consider the following: “What are you imagining, remembering, or feeling? What story do you see in this artwork?” For more information and warm up exercises for writing visit www.theafoundation.org
