The Art Department Presents: "Jon Shannon Rogers: Space is the Place" w/ Bonnie Montgomery

The fifth installment of Thea Foundation presents The Art Department will feature the works of painter Jon Shannon Rogers in an exhibition titled “Space is the Place,” which will debut with a reception Friday, Nov.7, 2014, from 6:30 to 9:00pm. at Thea Foundation.

Nov. 7, $10 at the door covers heavy hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, a live musical performance by Bonnie Montgomery Music, and the chance to win an original painting by Jon Shannon Rogers. Rogers’ work will be on display at Thea Foundation through the month of November.

Rogers earned his MFA from New York Studio School and BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago before serving as an adjunct professor at Henderson State University and Hendrix College. He has just returned from a month-long residency at the Dumfries House in Scotland. Rogers is the recipient of several scholarships and awards, including: Arkansas Arts Council’s 28th Annual Small Works on Paper, Purchase Award; Lindquist Purchase Award, DNSPE, Bradbury Gallery, Arkansas State University; and being named to The Oxford American magazine's Top 100 Under 100: New Superstars of Southern Art. Originally from Arkansas, Rogers now resides in Oakland, California.

Rogers is well known in Arkansas for his unusual landscapes, which are typically large, dreamy interpretations of everyday scenes familiar to Little Rock residents. “An image begins to appeal to me after repeated exposure, usually through some routine or other, which leads me to decide to paint from it,” Rogers said of his process. Anyone familiar with the city will quickly recognize views from under the Broadway Bridge, looking over the city from Knoop Park, and iconic car washes, gas stations and other staples of the city.

Bonnie Montgomery's music is well known in her home state of Arkansas and is gaining momentum across the country. Check out her latest self-titled album at http://www.bonniemontgomerymusic.com/
