JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Jacksonville Police Department will be hosting Prescription Drug Take Back Day in an attempt to collect expired and unused medications from those in the community.

This event will be held Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the Jacksonville Police Department off 1400 Marshall Road.

Drop-off of the medications is completely anonymous and no questions will be asked. Medications can be returned in any container. For privacy, the pills may be removed from the original pill bottle. Police are accepting unwanted prescriptions, over the counter meds and vitamins.

According to a study published in 2013 by the Partnership at Drugfree.org and MetLife Foundation, more than 40 percent of teens who have misused or abused a prescription, obtained it from their parents' medicine cabinet.

Jacksonville Police Department is asking those in the community to help drive down prescription drug abuse in Arkansas by taking a few minutes to drive down their unneeded medications to a drop-off location for disposal.
