LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) will host open house activities Feb. 17 and 18 as part of the 2011 National Salute to Veteran Patients. The annual observance offers an opportunity for people and communities to say thanks and let those who have given so much in service to our nation know that they are not forgotten. Local celebrities, political leaders, military members and Veterans Service Organizations have been invited to visit veteran patients this week and show support for their service and sacrifice.

This year’s festivities will take place during the following events Thursday and Friday.

Event: North Little Rock Meet and Greet - Little miss pageant winners and Miss Teen Arkansas will join visitors from throughout the state as they meet with hospitalized Veterans at the Eugene J. Towbin Healthcare Center. The event features keynote speaker retired Colonel Mike Ross, president of the Arkansas Veterans Coalition. Colonel Ross is former Commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade, an Iraqi war Veteran and former Commander of the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade.

When: Feb. 17, 1-3 p.m.

Where: 2200 Fort Roots Drive, North Little Rock, Ark. 72114 (in the Recreation Center)

Event: Little Rock Reception and Visitation – Distinguished visitors, community members and active duty military will gather to show support and visit Veteran patients at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital. Opening remarks will be offered by US Representative Tim Griffin who also holds the rank of Major and serves as a Command Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army Reserve.
