National Guard training exercises scheduled on Pinnacle Mountain

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.(ANG) –The Arkansas National Guard will conduct a training exercise near the summit of 1,011-foot Pinnacle Mountain at Pinnacle Mountain State Park this Saturday, April 5, from approximately 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Black Hawk helicopter team will practice hoists and airlifts from the boulder field near the top of Pinnacle Mountain. The hoist site will be about 200 feet off the park’s West Summit Trail. Neither the West Summit Trail nor the East Summit Trail that lead hikers to mountain’s summit will be closed to the public during this exercise.

However, soldiers will be stationed on both trails to inform hikers of the exercise and communicate any necessary safety precautions. Two local fire departments will be staged in the park's West Summit Picnic Area to support the training exercise and share information about their operations with park visitors. For details, contact the park at: 501-868-5806.

Pinnacle Mountain State Park is one of the 52 state parks administered by the State Parks Division of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. It is in Pulaski County just northwest of Little Rock.
