NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Pulaski Technical College Foundation will participate in #GivingTuesdayAR on Dec. 1, a day that focuses on holiday giving rather than holiday spending.

At PTC, more than 60 percent of students rely on financial aid through scholarships, grants and loans, while 90 percent work full- or part-time. With a somewhat small allocation from the state, tuition and fees must generate almost half of Pulaski Tech’s operating costs, whereas most colleges’ student fees account for a mere 20 percent of their budgets.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce announced the return of the 17th Annual “A Night at the Rep” on Thursday.

On Tuesday, December 1, the Arkansas Repertory Theatre located at 601 Main Street in Little Rock will be hosting a a silent auction and reception followed by the musical production of The Little Mermaid, all beginning at 5 p.m. with  

The performance will start at 7 p.m.

Guests will have the opportunity to bid on over 150 auction items including sports memorabilia, tickets to sporting and cultural events, vacation packages, artwork, jewelry, electronic devices and gift certificates.

Tickets are $45 per person and include admission, heavy hors d’oeuvres and adult beverages.

Barnes & Noble Little Rock announces lineup for Retail Mini Maker Faire

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and a leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, revealed on Wednesday its impressive lineup of events, products and special guests to be featured at its stores nationwide during the first-ever retail Mini Maker Faire, from Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8.

Throughout the weekend, customers will have the opportunity to participate in interactive product demonstrations to learn about programming, coding and 3D printing, and to take part in collaborative hands-on experiences designed to stretch their imaginations and creative thinking as they work cooperatively to make something original. They will also be able to “Meet the Makers,” with The Innovation Hub appearing at Barnes & Noble Little Rock.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Join the Mosaic Templars for a conversation about the Civil Rights Movement in Arkansas and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.

A panel will cover a variety of topics starting November 3 at 11:30 a.m. and will end at 12:30 p.m.  Panelists will include UALR assistant professors Dr. Brian Mitchell and Dr. Charles Romney. UAPB assistant professor Dr. Joseph Jones. Former Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee member Vivian Jones and PhD Candidate from the University of Arkansas Rodney Harris.

100.3 The Edge's Annual Scholarship Chili Cook-Off

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The September Fund is seeking chili eaters for its 10th Annual “Guns n’ Hoses Chili Cook-Off."

Individuals or teams of up to five will compete in various categories for cash, trophies, bragging rights and other prizes on Saturday, October 31 at the Metroplex, 10800 Colonel Glenn Road in Little Rock. Cooking starts at 6 a.m., and the event opens to the public at 11 a.m.

Tasting spoons will be sold to the public with money raised from this event going towards the September Fund’s yearly scholarship awards. College-bound sons and daughters of Arkansas firemen, law enforcement officers and emergency medical technicians are eligible for the scholarships. 

Since the fund’s inception in 2003, it has raised and awarded over $100,000 in scholarships.

Pancake breakfast to benefit Jacksonville PD program

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Jacksonville Police Department student resource officers program. 

On Saturday, October 17 from 8 a.m. till 10 p.m. citizens of Jacksonville and surrounding communities can join the Jacksonville Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association for a stack of pancakes. There will also be a silent auction and charitable donation drawing. 

All of this will be taking place at the Jacksonville Police Department located at 1400 Marshall Road. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for kids under the age of 10.

NLR selected for National League of Cities' Connecting Children to Nature Leadership Academy

NLR selected for National League of Cities' Connecting Children to Nature Leadership Academy

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The National League of Cities (NLC) and Children & Nature Network have selected North Little Rock to participate in the Connecting Children to Nature Leadership Academy in Salt Lake City, Utah this October.

The leadership academy will provide city officials with the skills and knowledge to take up new or expanded leadership roles in improving access to nature in their communities.

Over the course of the two-day meeting, North Little Rock Alderman Charlie Hight and Parks and Recreation staff members Jeff Caplinger and Ian Hope will have the opportunity to learn about promising practices and strategies for connecting children to nature. Participants will work with national experts, attend workshops, conduct field visits and engage in peer learning with city leaders from the seven other cities who have been selected for the leadership academy.
