NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) – Kyna Hockenberry runs the Teen Center at the Laman Library in North Little Rock and has something daily planned for the teens there whether it is active games, new foods, or special guests. This is why her teens nominated her twice for THV11’s weekly honor of My Town Hero.

According to the nomination letter sent it by her teens, Kyna has brought in a multitude of educational opportunities from giving them the ability to see animals up close and personal to listening to professors talk about their career fields.

“She was the first person to tell me that college wasn't a stupid option that I could actually do it and she gave me tons of information and books on scholarships and ACTS,” said one of her teens. “She even brought in a guy to teach us how to take the ACT.  Even though most of us don't say it much we know that because of Ms. Kyna we have a safe place to go where we are always welcome. She doesn't allow any bullying at all and always stands up for us.”

The group also said Kyna isn’t afraid to be herself and encourages others to do the same. They said she has even gone as far making a zombie game with the library floor plan as the board.

The teens said the best part about their sessions with Kyna is the fact that she always some in with a smile and asks them how their day is.

"Kyna Hockenberry is definitely a hero to me. She has helped make Laman Library an amazing and safe place for teens in North Little Rock to go, have fun, make friends, and learn. She has quite the imagination. The activities Ms. Kyna comes up with are so amazing," said Stacie Nellis. "There's the times we have had our own Hunger Games, hosted an art show featuring our (the teens) artwork, got turned into a zombie, open mic nights, and the list goes on. She has also gone above and beyond what any other librarian I have known or seen ever does. Her smile is also quite contagious. That is why Ms. Kyna is definitely a hero to me."
