Area around NLR High School being revamped

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The area around North Little Rock High School is changing for the good.

Danny Bradley, chief of staff for the mayor of North Little Rock, said this area is in great need of fresh air and is about to start seeing the first steps towards revitalization.

"Developed back 60, 65 years ago, and it's began to age. It's time for a facelift," said Bradley.

Bradley said several businesses and buildings near the intersection of Main Street and Pershing Boulevard are getting renovated to look like new. This is part of the ongoing expansion of the North Little Rock High School.

"The old Holiday Inn, which now you can see is now the Budgetel Inn in recent years, is being taken down.  It's going to be a large convenient store," Bradley explained.

Bradley said that in recent months, several properties in the area of the school have sold, gone up for sale or are undergoing remodeling.

Bradley told THV11 that a tropical smoothie will take over the old bank property on Main Street, and several fast food restaurants have shown interest in a commercial property next to the new gas station on Pershing Boulevard.

"We're bringing a new look back to this particular area, and I think it's going to make a huge difference."

The City of North Little Rock said they hope in the near future the funding is available to renovate the police complex in the area.
