NFL makes history tonight

NFL makes history tonight

The NFL will have a female referee for the first time in history tonight as Shannon Eastin, who has spent time officiating high school and college games, will be part of the replacement crew officiating tonight’s Packers-Chargers NFL game in the midst of the NFL officials lockout.

I’ve seen both male and female referees officiate basketball games, and never given much thought to their ability to do their job.  I believe as long as the official understands the game and the rules to make an unbiased call, then their gender doesn’t matter.

The Somewhat Competitive Olympics

The Summer Olympics only rolls around every 4 years, and it’s a great opportunity to wake up at 2 am and catch some sweet archery action.  It’s a showcase of the best of the best from each country as they compete for these over elaborate necklaces.

So if I’m a betting man, I’d venture to guess that the United States would want its very best to compete.  This wasn’t the case Sunday.

As I was flipping through the channels, I caught a glimpse of the women’s gymnastics qualifying competition and this poor girl crying her eyes out because she didn’t qualify.  I later found out that her name is Jordyn Wieber, reigning 2011 gymnastics world champion, and she didn’t qualify to compete in the Olympics due to "low judging", where she was scored too low unfavorably and therefore didn’t make it in the top two of her team.
