Rock star Corey Smith in LR this Sunday, April 17

Rock star Corey Smith in LR this Sunday, April 17

With seven albums and dozens of sold-out shows now under his belt — including at famed venues such as The Roxy in Atlanta and Georgia Theatre in Athens — Corey Smith brings his popular, unpretentious Americana act with country, rock and blues influences to Revolution Music Room on Sunday, April 17.

Since winning a songwriting contest and releasing his first album, "Undertones," in 2003, Smith has been soaring underneath the radar of the major labels by nursing a loyal fan base all over the South who appreciates his back-to-basics honesty in both his music and his lyrics.

"Drawing heavily from the blues, country and rock traditions of the South, he applies the back-porch twang of an acoustic guitar, a soulful singing voice, and well-crafted lyrics to the task of creating music that is at once distinct and familiar," Jambase.com says.

His supporting band is not bad either; this guy and his friends know how to "Party" — incidentally, one of his most popular

Hendrix College proudly shares up-and-coming artists

CONWAY, Ark. -- Thursday night at Hendrix College will prove to be one that people will be buzzing about for the next month. Hendrix's 2011 Senior Art Majors are hosting the opening reception of their senior show from 4 - 6 pm. The show will run from April 7 until after graduation on May 14 in the Trieschmann Gallery at Hendrix.

The arrangement of the show allows for free flowing movement from the moment the viewer steps in. Each body of work is contained within its own area, with the exception of the sculptural elements. However, their separation adds to the singularity of each piece, whereas the other works are more of a cohesive body meant to be taken in together. Eight very different artists are feature in the show.

Despite the popularity of the photographic medium, there is a large diversity of work embodied by the photographs. Alyssa Moran has created a visual diary, in a style reminiscent of Nan Goldin's work.
