CAW schedules road closure on Batesville Pike

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR — Central Arkansas Water (CAW) this weekend will close Batesville Pike from West Maryland Avenue in North Little Rock to Kellogg Acres Road (please, see locator map).  The road closing is to facilitate permanent road repairs resulting from the installation of a section of the NorthBelt Transmission Main.

Thomas Wray, P.E., Senior Engineer for CAW, states that on Saturday, March 26, work will start at 7 a.m. and be completed by 10 p.m.  During the work, the utility advises that motorists take an alternate route along Maryland Avenue or Kellogg Acres Road.

S & J Construction Company, under contract with CAW, installed a 42-inch-diameter transmission main across Batesville Pike on January 15, 2011, and made temporary repairs to the road surface.  This section is part of the NorthBelt Transmission Main, which — when complete — will extend from the Jack H. Wilson Water Treatment Plant in Little Rock to Arkansas Highway 107 in Gravel Ridge.  The overall project consists of 17.3 miles of pipeline that will provide CAW with the capacity to serve the future needs of retail and wholesale customers north of the Arkansas River.  Jacksonville Water Works, Cabot Waterworks, North Pulaski Waterworks Public Facilities Board, and CAW are sharing in the cost of the project.

“Work on the NorthBelt Transmission Main commenced in 2002, and we anticipate completing the final phase by the year’s end,” says Jim Ferguson, P.E., CAW’s Director of Engineering.  “The project has included eight phases of work totaling $35 million.”

For more information about the road closure or water-line installation, motorists and utility customers should call the CAW Distribution Dispatch Center at (501) 377-1239.
