North Little Rock, Ar (September 11, 2012) – On Saturday, September 15, The North Little Rock Police Department will host a Child Safety Seat Check at McCain Mall.  Bring your child and primary vehicle to the southeast corner of McCain Mall (next to Firestone) between 9 AM and noon.

Certified Safety Seat Technicians will be on hand to not only make sure you have your seat installed properly, but also to make sure the car seat is safe (not recalled) and to make sure the seat is the right size for your child.

According to the Safe Kids website, child safety seats reduce fatal injury in passenger cars by 71 percent for infants less than 1 year old and by 54 percent for toddlers 1 to 4 years of age.  For children 4 to 7 years of age, booster seats have shown to reduce injury risk by 59 percent compared to safety belts alone.

AHTD to hold public meeting for Broadway Bridge project

LITTLE ROCK (8-9) - The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will hold a Location Public Hearing in North Little Rock to discuss proposed alternatives for improvements to the Broadway Bridge (Highway 70) over the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock, according to AHTD officials.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 23, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Arkansas Transit Association Building (Training Room), 620 W. Broadway St., in North Little Rock.

At the meeting, participants will see plans for five alternatives - four construction alternatives and a no action alternative.  The project is proposed due to deterioration of the existing structure, increasing maintenance costs and the bridge’s functional obsolescence.
