New stadium bringing new traffic to NLR

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - With the new stadium ready to fill up with North Little Rock fans for Friday night's game, officials have been increasing their efforts to try and make operations move as smoothly as possible. 

District administrators say a lot of hard work went in to making sure Friday night was going to operate accordingly. It's game day, and prepping the smallest details by the behind the scenes staff at North Little Rock High School was the top priority.

ASMSA opens Class of 2018 admissions cycle

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts has officially launched the search for the Class of 2018.
 
Students apply to ASMSA through a competitive admissions process that evaluates high school coursework, ACT/SAT scores, responses to essay questions, letters of recommendation and other accomplishments.  Finalist candidates are invited to attend Interview Weekends in April.  The process is similar to application at selective colleges and universities.
 
Students must submit their completed online application, test scores, and letters of recommendation no later than March 1, 2016.

PopUp West Ninth

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Developed by studioMAIN and Create Little Rock, Pop Up in the Rock is a rapid community development project that focuses on illustrating underdeveloped potential in local city areas.

The next Pop Up event will take place on West Ninth Street on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The PopUp West Ninth event will focus on Little Rock’s Historic West Ninth Street and will span from the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center (MTCC) at Ninth and Broadway to Dreamland Ballroom at Ninth and State and across the State Street overpass to the campus of Philander Smith.

PopUp West Ninth hopes to encourage pedestrian and bicycle traffic between Philander Smith College and West Ninth Street via the South State Street overpass, thereby bridging the gap that originally unraveled the urban fabric of the area.

Inspired by community feedback and the rich history of West Ninth, PopUp in the Rock hopes to demonstrate the district’s potential for a vibrant future.

Pulaski Tech students receives $14,000 in culinary scholarships

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Seven Pulaski Technical College students have received a combined $14,000 in scholarships from the Arkansas Hospitality Association.

All of the students attend PTC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute. Each receives a $2,000 award for the 2015-16 school year.

Dale Brooks, of Mayflower, received the Bed & Breakfast Association of Arkansas Scholarship.

Rachel Nelson of Perryville, received the Tim Mathis Memorial Scholarship, presented to an outstanding student with a committment to the hospitality industry. The award is presented by Mr. and Mrs. Rusty Mathis in memory of their son, Tim Mathis.

18th Annual Youth Fishing Derby

18th Annual Youth Fishing Derby

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - Jacksonville Parks and Recreation and Arkansas Game and Fish are sponsoring a Youth Fishing Derby for fishing enthusiast ages 15 and under, Saturday, September 19 at the Jacksonville Shooting Complex.

Registration is free and will be at the Jacksonville Shooting Complex from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 19. Tournament will be 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., rain or shine.

Prizes will be awarded after the derby for different categories such as smallest fish caught, most fish caught and longest fish caught. You must be present to win.

Back to school youth conference

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - On September 12, 2015 Arkansas Stop the Violence will be having a Back to School Youth Conference at Greater Trinity, located at 2400 Wright Ave. at 6:30 p.m.

The purpose of this event is to show people the good that our children are doing and to try to show them the importance of education, being on task and trying to be successful in life.

New bridge opens but old bridge causes delays

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - There are signs of progress in the construction zones along Interstate 40, but commuters can still expect delays over the coming days.

A new bridge in North Little Rock is expected to be open to the public traffic on Monday. The Norman Road overpass crosses the interstate just north of the interchange with Interstate 430.

While the new bridge will be open, officials hope to begin the removal of the old bridge. Work to do that will force lane closures and likely traffic blockage over the next three days.

Most of the work will take place during the night hours, avoiding rush hour traffic.
